Ireland’s Reflection:
A tube of toothpaste is no less art in the home than a painting. When we build our worlds is it for the sake of consumption or creation? It is always creation, conscious or not. When I put someone’s work in my world I am the creator, not of a piece but of a life. They opened the door but I’m holding it for the next guy. I am the next guy.
We associate art where we can identify control, where we can see cause and effect. “He made that beautiful sculpture” — look outside people, look what we are witness to, what we are PARTICIPATING in. If we truly understood cause and effect we could see that it’s all art, all beauty. Every spec of dust, slow motion sludge, sacrifice and road kill. All of this divine rot.
What is art to me? Hm. It’s to exist as the truth more than I could a minute ago. To see and to be are the same. I’m gonna go brush my teeth and look out the window now.
Out the window at the campers walking up the hill to come meditate, collectively.
Jared’s reflection:
Sometimes, or ideally I am creating in a very controlled state of Manic. It’s like splatter painting with essentialism, combining design with catharsis, like inviting loving kindness to a painful ass meditation.
In reference to Camp Air, we have spent at least 300 hours on thinking about and trying to execute this whole ting: involving many more people then just me, so now the play is 85% written and the ticket box is open.
Now it’s up to us to get on stage and cook.
Here is a photo Ireland found and a poem I wrote on my art practice so far, it speaks about Art or sculpture in life as a way of thinking and being.
life as a medium / that’s kinda hot
Should I chase the feeling of intense creativity.
Or create a constant practice that bleeds into my life.
I suppose it’s the same ting either way.
To me life as / and blended into an artistic practice is the freshest medium.
Maybe that’s why I got bored of DJ’ing so quickly.
I’d rather d.j. all of my life, and other’s if they allow.
Hence we have taken tremendous efforts to prepare for this social sculpture.
To me Social Sculpture is the right medium to try and cultivate constant awareness, bc it’s inescapable, the studio is everything, everywhere right now.
I’ve been thinking a lot about how a good d.j isn’t one without mistakes.
But rather one that can transition a fuck up into a smooth lil vibe ting.
That’s also why I don’t believe in going backwards.
Time is just everything unwrapping itself.
